Course Overview

Assertiveness is the quality of being self-assured and confident without being aggressive. Assertive individuals are able to get their point across without upsetting others, or becoming upset themselves. This course focuses on understanding the difference between aggressive, passive and assertive behaviours to improve personal communication effectiveness.

Course Objectives

    • Stand up for their own or other people's rights in a calm and positive way
    • Establish the different styles of communication and the impact they have on others
    • Identify the barriers to effective communication
    • Understand how beliefs and experience influence communication style
    • Evaluate the effectiveness of their own communication style
    • Explore and plan a strategy to improve their personal communication effectiveness
